About the Artist
Colin is an architect who has painted all his life. As an experienced mountaineer much of his work is focused on the mountains in this area, many of which he has climbed. The awesome expanse of mountains, lake and tussock land, ever changing in the different lights, are a rich source for subjects.
Although his paintings are generally inspired by the New Zealand landscape, recent visits to Italy, France and Great Britain have resulted in a series of European paintings.
Light and atmospheric effects are the driving force for his paintings. He is committed to using the transparent quality of water colour with the surface of the paper being the only source of white.
