Round Hill Ski Area Goes For Gold

Once again the team at Round Hill are thinking ahead, and have spent the summer rebuilding an old but loved lift from the early years. The snow sure back bowl has been reconnected with a new T Bar. In the 70s a rope tow stood here. The back bowl has always had a reputation as a friendly powder area, and we are thrilled to see it reopen once more.. well done.430376 279723022096153 125269677541489 645485 588350713 n1 Round Hill Ski Area Goes For Gold

Autumn Colour

The pre winter weather is once again here with wonderful changes in the colour of the Mackenzie Basin. The stands of Rowan, Poplar, Beech, and other deciduous trees stand framed against the barren Mackenzie landscape. Soon winter, with its skiing , snowboarding, hot pools, ice-skating, and après ski, will be upon us but until then we are all basking in the warm autumn sunshine and calm days.

The colour is spectacular in the late afternoon light, sadly though another reminder of a summer past.

Patersons Ponds, a little know attraction in summer and autumn offer a tranquil setting for picnics, swimming, and fishing. The Tekapo River, still one of New Zealand iconic fishing rivers feeds the ponds which can be found just beyond the Tekapo Power House, south of the village.
